More high tide flooding in eastern suburbs

Parts of eastern Christchurch were flooded again on Tuesday night by a spring tide.

Civil Defence says more surface flooding is possible between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday.

For the second consecutive night there was surface flooding in parts of Avonside, New Brighton and Bexley. Some streets were closed for three hours.

The Pleasant Point Yacht Club was also flooded again.

Civil Defence says unusually high tides have been forcing water back up damaged pipes.

Infrastructure director Michael Aitkin says surface flooding is also possible over the next few days but levels are not expected to be as high over Easter.
