Access for Christchurch contractors and business owners to the earthquake-hit city's red zone is about to get stricter.
Civil Defence says people who need to get in to the cordoned-off area will require a new form of identification from next week.
From Monday, paper passes will be replaced by different passes that include photos.
The passes can be obtained from Civil Defence headquarters at the art gallery which will be closed over Easter.
Anyone found in the red zone without the proper pass will be detained by police, Civil Defence says.
