EQC dubs 5.3 aftershock new event for claims

The Earthquake Commission says the 5.3 magnitude aftershock in Christchurch on Saturday 16 April will be considered a new event for claims purposes.

The sharp aftershock caused power cuts, further damage to some buildings, as well as breakages to personal belongings.

The EQC says people who need to lodge an additional claim have until 18 July to do so.
