Most who fled Christchurch will return - study

Fears that the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February drove residents out of the city for good are not supported by a new study.

The Canterbury District Health Board commissioned the study from the consulting firm Sapere Research Group after becoming concerned by media reports that 70,000 people had fled the quake-stricken city and were unlikely ever to come back.

A principal at Sapere, Tom Love, told Nine to Noon however that most of them are likely to return, if they haven't already.

The study found that an estimated 8000 people may never return.
