Power on in parts of quake red zone

Power is now on in parts of the red zone in central Christchurch following February's devastating earthquake.

Network company Orion says people entering the red zone need to treat properties as though they are live, particularly if exposed wires can be seen or if demolition or digging are to be carried out.

Orion says the supply of power within the CBD's four avenues will continue to be problematic for some months, as demolition requests can come at short notice.

It is asking residents within the area to be patient over further possible power cuts.

People who are unsure about the power supply status of their building or property in the red zone can call the Orion Contact Centre on 03 363 98 98.
