Maori TV to mount quake telethon

Maori Television is to mount a 12-hour telethon in May to raise money for the Christchurch earthquake.

Maori TV head Jim Mather says the station wanted to provide its own response to the earthquakes and show support for the Maori and wider community in the region.

He says the telethon - Rise Up Christchurch, Te Kotahitanga - will be broadcast from the Canterbury Arena on 22 May.

Mr Mather high profile New Zealanders are lining up to be part of the event, which will entail live crosses to Auckland, Wellington, Los Angeles, London and Sydney.
