A 5.2 magnitude earthquake has shaken the Canterbury region on Saturday morning.
The aftershock occurred at 7:08am and was centred 20 kilometres north-west of Oxford and 60 kilometres north-west of Christchurch.
GNS Science says the quake was 9 kilometres deep.
It says it would have been felt throughout Canterbury and the West Coast.
Christchurch police say there have been no reports of damage.
An earlier 3.8 aftershock centred 20 kilometres west of Christchurch was recorded at 5.48am.
