Some Christchurch businesses are tied up in disputes with insurers who want proof that office equipment in cordoned off buildings is actually damaged.

Thousands of businesses in the central city have little access to their premises.

Andrew Verrall from Accordia Finance says their building is red stickered in the Grand Chancellor Hotel's cordon zone, but the insurer still wants evidence that the office equipment is damaged.

The Canterbury Employer's Chamber of Commerce says hundreds of businesses could be facing similar disputes.

Chief executive Peter Townsend says the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority could assist by giving a time-frame for when access to buildings will be available.
