Education Minister Anne Tolley is considering special help for families left without early childhood education in eastern suburbs of Christchurch which were damaged by the February earthquake.

She told Kindergartens New Zealand on Friday that she wants to include the area in a Government scheme aimed at increasing participation.

Some early childhood centres in eastern Christchurch were damaged in February's quake and the number of children accessing early childhood education in those suburbs is low.
