Temporary fix for sewer pipes in worst-hit areas

Thousands of residents in the worst quake-hit eastern suburbs of Christchurch are to get their sewer pipes temporarily fixed but must wait another three months before they are in place.

The Christchurch City Council says it is putting temporary sewer pipes in the suburbs of Bexley and Brooklands where a permanent solution is still some away.

It says it has identified another 30 areas where such measures are necessary.

The council says it hopes people in these suburbs will once again be able to use their toilets, showers and washing machines by the end of August.
