Residents feel stymied by quake land uncertainty

Christchurch residents who are preparing to abandon earthquake-affected suburbs say they can't do anything until the Government makes an official announcement.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says he will not be rushed into releasing a relocation plan.

He says in some cases it is obvious which areas will have to be abandoned, but more information needs to be gathered so the final report is robust.

Avonside resident Corina Grennell says her insurers have signed off on replacing her house and a deposit on a new section, but her bank won't allow it until the Government confirms the old property must be let go.

In Horseshoe Lake, Vanessa Roberts says her area must also be written off, but nine months of uncertainty over the land have left her and her husband stuck.

But another resident, Heather Watson, says her family will sit tight, trusting the Government to deliver on its promises to see them right.
