A social services group says people who have relocated from Christchurch because of the February earthquake are struggling and need assistance.

Presbyterian Support Services says families are continuing to use the scheme it set up after the quake but there are fewer grants to help people.

The manager of Presbyterian Support Services' Familyworks scheme, Liz Nolan, says a formal plan needs to be put in place to help families moving out of Christchurch for good.

She says people are struggling with moving and the financial strain it puts on them.
