Marae Court seen as worthy of replication

The local Law Society president in Christchurch wants the Marae Court being used because of quake damage to the inner city to be a blueprint for the rest of the country.

The head of the society's Canterbury and Westland branch, Allister Davis, says the court set up at Nga Hau E Wha National Marae in Aranui is an outstanding success.

He says it works so well because it takes justice to the community and the local people are treating it as their court.

Mr Davis says those using it are showing a great deal of respect and ownership.

He says he would like the court to continue even after the inner city is repaired, though that is up to the Ministry of Justice.
