Water restored to almost all of Christchurch

Almost all Christchurch residents have their water back on, after last week's two big aftershocks cut supply to thousands of people. The boil water notice has also been lifted for tap water.

Christchurch City Council says some small areas at the top of Scarborough are still without water, and work is continuing on Monday to restore the supply there.

Anyone who is still without water can call the council on: 0800 800 169.

Canterbury medical officer of health, Dr Ramon Pink, says it is now safe to drink tap water.

But Dr Pink says water from tankers and distribution points still needs to be boiled.
