Many small businesses within residential areas of Christchurch that have to be abandoned are wondering what help will be available for them to relocate.

The offer for the Government to purchase properties in the worst earthquake-damaged suburbs only applies to residential homes, leaving businesses worried about their future.

Dallington dairy owner Kim Xuan expects to lose more than half of his regular customers as nearby houses are cleared in the coming months.

Murray Davie's Avondale bar has been closed since February, and he now finds himself surrounded by streets that have to be abandoned.

He is unclear what, if any, assistance will be offered to people like him.

The Government says it is still working through the options for businesses, and will get information to them as soon as possible.
