EQC being taken to court over unpaid invoices

The Earthquake Commission is being taken to court next week over unpaid invoices from contractors.

The Amalgamated Workers Union says some contractors have not been paid by the Commission since September, and after meeting with accountants and lawyers they have decided to force the issue.

A union spokesperson, Kelvin Fisher, says smaller contractors queried the non-payment several weeks ago, but since then the Earthquake Commission has continued to drag its feet.

He says some workers and suppliers are out of pocket and the union will look to force payment next week.

EQC has not returned calls from Radio New Zealand.
