Red zone residents hold garage sale

Residents in one of red zone suburbs of Christchurch are holding a community garage sale on Saturday to get rid of possessions they don't want to take to their new homes.

Seventy-four homes across Bexley are hosting garage sales. All the proceeds are to be donated to St John.

Organiser Angela Jackson of Bexley says she and Renee Hughes came up with the idea on the night they found out their homes would have to be abandoned because of the earthquakes.

She says 20 people turned up at her house on Friday looking for maps of the houses involved, so she is expecting a big turn out.
