12:10 pm on 10 August 2011

The first technical report for the Royal Commission looking into the collapse of buildings in the Canterbury earthquakes, has been released.

The Royal Commission is looking at the cause of the buildings' failure, and what led to the loss of life in the collapse of the CTV and PGC buildings.

The Royal Commission has requested technical reports from a range of authorities, including Christchurch City Council, police and the Department of Building and Housing, which is the first organisation to issue its findings.

The report provides background information on the building regulations, including the seismic standards, and the 2004 provisions for upgrading the structural performance of buildings.
