Christchurch no-go area reduced

Part of the inner-city red zone in Christchurch is being opened.

From midday on Saturday, the block surrounded by Oxford Terrace, Lichfield and Tuam Streets will be opened.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says urgent demolition, required after the 13 June aftershock, has meant the area has been cleared faster than expected.

A spokesperson for the authority says people will be able to walk around the area to see how much demolition has already been done, and how signifantly altered the face of the city is.
