Public help sought in finding new landfill site

The company proposing a temporary landfill for earthquake demolition material in the Christchurch suburb of Papanui, is asking for the public's help to find other suitable sites.

Residents there are angry and say the site is inappropriate because there are homes and schools nearby.

Ceres Environmental Services says the proposal was leaked before it was finished and the company was looking for alternative sites.

It says the city's main landfill site at Burwood is at bursting point and the company can process the material more quickly and sustainably.

Christchurch City Council and the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority have also been asked to help find alternative sites.
