Orange-zone frustration at decision-making delay

Some residents in Christchurch's orange zone are frustrated at the delay in establishing whether their quake-damaged properties are safe enough to rebuild on.

Spencerville, Brooklands and Southshore residents were told they would have a decision in September, and when that deadline was missed, were told they would hear something this month.

On Tuesday, Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee met with those involved in making the decision - including engineers, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, the Treasury and the Earthquake Commission.

He says residents can expect an update in the next two weeks.

A Spencerville resident, Kerry Van de Loo, says people are desperate for answers and increasingly frustrated over the time it is taking to make a decision.

"We just want answers," she says, "and we want the ones that give us an indication of where we're going."
