Temporary tax provisions extended

The Government has extended two temporary tax provisions introduced after the September 2010 earthquake to help quake-affected Cantabrians.

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne says one allows Inland Revenue not to charge interest on late payments if people can't meet their tax obligations due to the quakes.

That provision has been extended to the end of September next year.

Inland Revenue was also given the ability to share certain personal information about taxpayers with other departments - in order, Mr Dunne says, to ensure the continuous delivery of social assistance, business subsidies and other government services to those in Canterbury.

That provision has been extended until the end of October 2012.
