Jury trials to return to Christchurch

Jury trials are to return to central Christchurch early next year.

Courts Minister Georgina Te Heuheu says a number of modular buildings, known as portacoms, are being used to construct a purpose-designed jury building.

She says definitive answers about the structural condition of the main court buildings in the city are not yet available, but the new premises will ensure access to justice for the community.

The Ministry of Justice has commissioned geotechnical and quantitative structural investigations at the main court complex on Durham and Armagh streets, the results of which are expected at the end of October.
