Acts of heroism in the September and February earthquakes will be honoured in February at the annual Christchurch Civic Awards ceremony.
The city council says the awards given out will be known as the Christchurch Earthquake Awards and will honour as many quake heroes as possible.
Mayor Bob Parker says that during the quakes and their aftermath many people selflessly helped others and it's important to recognise that.
Nominations for individuals, organisations and businesses are now open until 23 December.
