Community meetings are being held in Christchurch for residents whose homes have been rezoned from orange to green.
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says land in the green zone can be repaired and homeowners can now start talking to their insurance companies.
But it says some green zone properties will require a new level of foundation work and the meetings will give residents advice on this change.
The authority says those needing to assess their foundations include residents who are rebuilding, renovating or substantially repairing their homes.
But it says the majority of green zone homes needing quake repairs won't be affected by the new technical categories.
Representatives from the authority and other government agencies will be at the meetings, as well as councils and insurance companies.
The meetings are being held in affected areas beginning on Monday 14 November for central city and Woolston residents and ending on Monday 28 November when it is the turn of residents in Redcliffs.
