Full house for red zone bus tours

12:45 pm on 3 December 2011

All of the seats on the bus tours of Christchurch's red zone have now been taken.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) has been running bus trips through the cordoned-off area of the central city since 5 November and the final opportunity to take the trip is 11 December.

CERA chief executive Roger Sutton says the final available seats on the bus trips were booked in the past two days.

Mr Sutton says while there will be no more red zone bus trips this year, CERA would consider whether or not they might resume in 2012.

Any decision would depend on the level and location of demolition work.

CERA has also opened a walkway through Cathedral Square and has increased the number of people allowed to walk it at a time from 300 to 400.

It is open from 9am to 8pm at weekends until 11 December.
