The Canterbury Earthquake Relief Authority says most people in Canterbury want to mark the anniversary of the earthquake of 22 February with a minute's silence at 12.51pm, the moment the quake struck.

The authority says that is the preference of 45% of the 600 people who took part in an online poll.

It says 26% want a large event at Hagley Park, 16.5% want to gather with family and friends near their home, and 4% don't want any kind of commemoration.
