More Port Hills properties re-zoned to green

The Government has announced a further 1600 homes on Christchurch's Port Hills have been rezoned from white to green.

The decision allows homeowners to begin rebuilding or repairing their earthquake-damaged homes.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says it brings the number of Port Hills properties zoned green to more than 11,300.

However, he says it still leaves just over 2000 homes in the white zone and another 900 in the orange zone.

Mr Brownlee says he understands the incredible frustration those homeowners will be experiencing, and the Government and other agencies are working to give them certainty as soon as possible.

Homeowners can check their zoning at www.landcheck.org.nz on Tuesday afternoon.
