Govt urged to make decision on white zone homes

Residents in Christchurch's white zone want the Government to identify which earthquake-hit properties can not be rebuilt on so homeowners can move on with their lives.

The Government has re-zoned another 1600 Port Hills homes from white to green.

The owners of these properties, which had been in the white zone while mapping was done, can now start rebuilding their damaged homes.

But just over 2000 Port Hills homes remain in the white zone and another 900 in the orange zone on the flat where further work is needed.

Marnie Kent's house in Sumner is in the white zone. She says while she can still live in it, she believes the Government must quickly identify which properties will not be rebuilt on and let those residents move on.

Another Sumner resident, Lisa Humphrey, says the most dangerous properties should be dealt with first.

The Government has previously said it appreciates that homeowners are frustrated and is working to give them certainty.
