Olive branch extended over Port Hills zoning

An olive branch has been extended to Port Hills residents asked to leave their homes because of the danger of rockfall.

Some 1600 homeowners were zoned green on Tuesday, meaning they can get on with repairs to their homes, but a further 2100 remain in the white zone.

Lyttelton Mount Herbert Community Board member Andrew Turner says many of these homes have escaped any damage and are at the mercy of property owners above them with loose rocks on their land.

Many of those who have been served with notices to leave their homes by Christchurch City Council are refusing to do so.
