The Earthquake Commission says the rebuilding of Christchurch is one of the largest construction projects in New Zealand history.

Chief executive Ian Simpson says about 7000 repairs have been completed already.

He told Morning Report that now that the timeframes have been released, it should give people more certainty of when repairs will be complete.

About 100,000 houses will come under a repair programme with Fletcher Earthquake Recovery, which covers repairs costing between $10,000 - $100,000.
