Gallery to stay closed until 2013

The earthquake-damaged Christchurch Art Gallery will not re-open until mid-next year.

Gallery director Jenny Harper says engineers are still investigating options for repairs and recommendations are not expected to go to Christchurch City Council until June.

Ms Harper says engineering reports indicate damage to the gallery's glass facade, wall cladding and parapets above the Worcester Boulevard-facing side of the Gallery, and to the ceilings and fittings in the foyer and in some galleries.

She says it has become clear that the Gallery will not be able to re-open as early as had been hoped due to the extent and complexity of repair work.
