A number of Sydenham residents are demanding that Christchurch City Council move a newly-built crematorium out of the area.
The crematorium, which burns five bodies per day, was given consent, despite public resistance, because it met the required regulations.
Jan Veronese, who lives near the crematorium, was one of three presenting a petition on Thursday morning, signed by about 360 people.
She says the council is not listening and is trying to wash its hands of the problem.
Mayor Bob Parker says the council will respond after considering the petition.
