Not all quake cordons may be down by April

Cordons blocking access to earthquake damaged areas of central Christchurch are being further reduced, but there is a warning that all the cordons may not be gone by April as hoped.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority chief executive Roger Sutton says the cordon along Madras Street will be gradually reduced in coming weeks and will be gone by early March.

The cordon on Tuam Street will also be reduced to allow access to the intersection with High Street.

Mr Sutton says it is hoped that all cordons will be down by April, but this might not be possible as it is taking some business owners longer than expected to repair their buildings.
