CTV collapse verdict due

Updated at 10:17 am on 9 February 2012

Officials from the Department of Building & Housing will reveal on Thursday what caused the collapse of the Canterbury Television Building in the earthquake on 22 February last year.

A report on the technical investigation into the collapse of the building by the ministry is due to be issued at 3.30pm.

The CTV building collapsed in the magnitude 6.3 earthquake, killing 116 people, of whom 65 were foreign students.

A total of 184 people died in the earthquake.

The release of the report follows an inquest last August into the identification of those who died in the building and the circumstances around their deaths.
