Answers wanted about CTV building approval

The Institution of Professional Engineers wants answers from the Christchurch City Council about why the CTV building was allowed to be built.

Some 115 people died in the building during the earthquake on 22 February last year and the official report into what caused its collapse says it did not meet the standards of the day.

That report is now in the hands of police and the Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ).

The council issued a permit for the building in 1986 and IPENZ wants to know how the building was allowed to go ahead.

The council says consent was given after it received building design and construction documents from independent engineers and architects employed by the building's owner.
