Hotel Grand Chancellor demolition resuming

Demolition work is set to resume at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch for the first time since a worker fell from a ladder last month, seriously injuring himself.

Chris Ngatai, of Linwood, was working between the 24th and 23rd floors of the hotel on 20 January when he fell.

Mr Ngatai, a Fletcher Construction employee, suffered a broken neck and serious head injuries and is still recovering from his injuries.

Both the Department of Labour and Fletcher Construction have been investigating the accident.

The department's southern general manager, Jean Martin, says the investigation continues but demolition work can now resume.
