Farm shed fire spreads to silage

10:08 am on 25 January 2017

Dozens of volunteer firefighters have fought a large blaze in a farm shed near Ashburton.

The Fire Service said the fire started just after 5am in a 60m farm shed, just west of the mid- Canterbury town.

The blaze also spread to nearby silage and hay.

Thirteen fire engines and teams from across the region were at the scene, and backup teams had to be sent from Methven to ensure there was sufficient cover.

The fire was contained and diggers were being used to make sure it didn't flareup again in the hay and silage.
