New Zealand middle-distance runner Nikki Hamblin has picked up her second silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Hamblin, from Cambridge, followed up her brave 1500m silver medal in Delhi at the weekend with a late charge in the 800m at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday.

Kenyan star and Olympic champion Nancy Langat completed the middle distance double with victory in the 800m, while Canada's Diane Cummins took bronze.

It was a night of successes for New Zealand at the track, with Hamblin's second silver and a bronze for Andrea Miller in the 100m hurdles with a season best time of 13.25 seconds.

However, there was disappointment, with former world discus champion Beatrice Faumuina managing only a fifth with an uninspiring 57m throw.

In the women's 200m, Monique Williams was placed sixth.

New Zealand medal tally stands at 25 on Monday.
