Former cabinet minister and broadcaster John Tamihere has been appointed to the Māori Television board.

Mr Tamihere, who is of Ngāti Porou, Whakatohea and Tainui descent, will join five other board members under chairperson Georgina te Heuheu.
Ms te Heuheu said Mr Tamihere was a "highly capable" individual.
"He brings an impressive array of skills including in law, business and the public sector. As a former broadcaster he is very attuned to the current challenges facing the industry."
Mr Tamihere is the current chief executive of the Waipareira Urban Māori Authority.
He was appointed to the board by the Electoral College, which represents Māori stakeholders and is chaired by his former radio show co-host Willie Jackson.
The term is for three years and he replaces out-going board member Rikirangi Gage, who joined the board in 2010.
