Clark has confidence in advice on financial crisis

7:44 pm on 20 October 2008

Labour leader Helen Clark says she has complete faith in the advice the Government is getting about the current financial crisis , and she will not be talking to banks about it.

National has criticised Miss Clark for not consulting the banks and says there is no indication that she understands the issues.

It wants a decision fast-tracked to extend the bank deposit guarantee scheme to cover the money banks borrow from other financial institutions.

Miss Clark says she has confidence in the Finance Minister, Reserve Bank Governor and head of Treasury, and their advice on what it is prudent to do.
