The formal process for the general election has begun with the signing of the writ.

The writ instructs the Electoral Commission to hold the general election one month from Wednesday on 26 November.

Candidate nominations open on Thursday, while parties and candidates are allowed to begin television and radio advertising from Wednesday.

The Electoral Rolls are now closed for printing. Voters enrolling after Wednesday will have to cast a special vote.

The writ was signed by Chief Justice Sian Elias on behalf of the Governor-General, Lieutenant-General Sir Jerry Mateparae, who is overseas.
