A blue campaign bus emblazoned with the face of National Party leader John Key will be on the road around the North Island for the rest of the election campaign.

Mr Key launched the bus campaign in Auckland on Tuesday, with several of the party's local candidates.

However, it got off to a sticky start as it tried to leave the Sylvia Park carpark with Mr Key on board.

A parked car had blocked its exit, causing the bus to run into one of the concrete barriers alongside the road.

Mall security, local police and members of Mr Key's Diplomatic Protection Squad tried to move the car out of the way.

That was unsuccessful, so the bus had to reverse out of the carpark before going on its way.
