The Remuneration Authority, which sets the salaries, said on Thursday it had given MPs a 1.5% across-the-board increase and $5000 per year to compensate them for losing their international travel subsidy.

The increase takes a backbench MP's base salary to $141,800.

The Prime Minister's salary rises to $411,510.
