The National Party's Epsom candidate will not be drawn on whether John Key's endorsement of the ACT Party's candidate in the electorate has backfired.
A One News-Colmar Brunton Poll shows National candidate Paul Goldsmith would win the seat with 41%, with Mr Banks trailing on 30%.
[image:3796:half:right]John Key and ACT's John Banks met on 11 November over a cup of tea at an Auckland cafe to signal to National supporters that they should vote for Mr Banks.
Mr Banks securing the seat is ACT's best chance of making it back into Parliament, which would give National a potential partner in Government.
Mr Goldsmith was asked whether people have been turned off by the deal, but all he would say is that there are a lot of people saying they will vote for him.
The Epsom poll surveyed 517 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4%.
A separate nationwide poll of National supporters found only 29% of them supported the deal made between ACT and National, while 55% opposed it.
