A man was taken ill as he was casting his vote in Wellington on Saturday, and later died.
The Electoral Commission says the man was at a polling place in Miramar when he was became ill and was taken to Wellington Hospital.
In Auckland, police were called to a polling place in Mt Roskill during the afternoon when a man became agressive and disorderly.
Officers spoke to a man for a couple of minutes who then cast his vote and left.
