The Sensible Sentencing Trust campaigner, Garth McVicar, will contest the seat of Napier for the Conservative Party at the upcoming election.
The candidacy was announced on Sunday afternoon, following a public meeting in the city.
The party says Mr McVicar brings common sense, decency, family values and isn't afraid to take on the system.
Mr McVicar, who was born and bred in the Hawke's Bay, said he wanted to make Napier the safe and prosperous place it once was.
