Anyone wanting to vote in the coming election can do so from today, with almost 300 advance voting places open for those who cannot cast a vote on the day.

The Electoral Commission says opening times for the voting places vary throughout the country.

There will be mobile advance voting facilities in Christchurch and commission teams will visiting hospitals, rest homes and remand centres to collect votes.

As well, there are dictation voting services for blind and low-vision voters.

The commission says 90 percent of the population, or more than 320,000 people eligible to vote, are enrolled. The election takes place on 20 September.
