Houses searched in electoral probe

Updated at 12:47 pm on 22 September 2010

Police have searched a number of houses and businesses in Papatoetoe in relation to an Auckland super city electoral enrollment inquiry.

The Registrar of Electors last week removed 306 enrolments after establishing that people did not live at addresses in the Papatoetoe ward, as stated on the forms.

The police are acting on a complaint from the Electoral Enrolment Centre. Up to 40 officers are involved in the inquiry.

They say that people at the addresses or associated with them have been very helpful. Candidates and campaign staff will also be contacted for information.
