Auckland's first super city Mayor will be Len Brown, while Bob Parker has been re-elected Mayor of Christchurch.
Outgoing Manukau City Mayor Len Brown received 221,000 votes with his nearest rival Auckland City mayor John Banks receiving 161,000 votes, with almost 95% of the vote counted.
In Christchurch, Mr Parker received 68,245 votes, 16,679 more than his closest rival, Jim Anderton, who received 51,566 votes, based on 98% of returned voting papers.
Progress results in the mayoral elections at the Wellington City Council are almost too close to call with the incumbent, Kerry Prendergast, leading Celia Wade-Brown by just 40 votes.
Kerry Prendergast has received 24468 votes and Celia Wade-Brown 24428.
And officials have confirmed Dave Cull is the new mayor of Dunedin replacing Peter Chin.

New mayors
Hamilton has a new mayor, Julie Hardaker who beat the incumbent, Bob Simcock by 797 votes.
New Plymouth's former Labour MP and Clark-Government minister Harry Duynhoven is the city's new mayor, with 10,011 votes, beating his main rival, National-linked Pauline Lockett who received 8354 votes.
Annette Main has been elected the new mayor of Whanganui.
North Canterbury merino farmer Winton Dalley is set to become the next mayor of Hurunui District, while former Canterbury regional councillor Angus McKay has won the Ashburton mayoral race.
Vanessa Van Uden has been elected the new mayor of the Queenstown Lakes District, while Tony Lepper has been voted in as new mayor for the Central Otago District.
Returning mayors
In Bay of Plenty, Stuart Crosby has been returned as the mayor of Tauranga City, Kevin Winters has been returned to office as Mayor of Rotorua and Malcolm Campbell has been re-elected to serve a fourth term as mayor of Kawerau.
The Far North District Council's Mayor Wayne Brown has also been re-elected by a very slim majority.
Mr Brown has 5573 votes, just 541 ahead of nearest rival Sir John Goulter.
Tim Shadbolt has won a sixth term as Invercargill Mayor, polling 16,275 votes compared with 5311 for his nearest rival Suzanne Prentice.
